Malaysia and a bit of Thailand...

Hello down under,

this is a lil travel-blog entry from our travels through peninsular Malaysia

After flying out of Melbourne we arrived in Kota Bharu that monday eve, went out to the night market stocked up on dried calamari to get ready to the trip to the islands.

Whilest on our arrival day the sun was still a bit shy, we had beautiful weather and conditions for snorkeling the next day. Besides sharks bigger than 1m, giant turtels and heaps of fish, we saw the most amazing coral reefs we have ever seen.

Beside all the marine wildlife we could also spot massive monitor lizzards...

From the Perhentian islands we traveled to Taman Negara, which is apperantly the oldest jungle in the world....even older then the oldest jungle in the world in Australia....the have the oldest everywhere....especially in Malaysia.
We did nice walks where we could observe plants and also heaps of insects. We did a canopy walk up to 30 meters up in the trees, went swimming in the river and dined at the floating restaurants.

We had to be very carefull as there are still tigers living in this jungle. the photo above shows how to get away if a tiger shows up.Besides tigers there are other dangerous things such as the "mean strangling root"....
....and more weird plants and little nice insects...

After our jungle experience we stayed for a night in buzzing Kuala Lumpur. China town is very busy, colorfull and every street stall owner tries to convince you to buy his products. You can get anything from food to genuine rollex watches (really cheap!!!)....dvd's and juwelery and more and more...
From KL we flew to Phuket, where we drove around on a scooter, watched Thais play Sepatakra at the beach (like volleyball without hands),drank out of pineapples and ate amazing thai food....here we also went surfing.....without wet-suit...terrific!!
